Support » WordPress Mobile App » Wordfence + App Password + Self Hosted

  • I have a self hosted site which has been running for years. I have wordfence and 2FA for all users. For one of those users I want to be able to use the Android WordPress App and I have been trying to get application passwords working.

I have unchecked the wordfence option “Disable WordPress application passwords”

When going to my_site/xmlrpc.php the response is “XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.”

I know how to generate an app password for the user but I simply can’t log in from the mobile app. I am presented with a username/password login screen which fails withe the user’s usual password (I guess because there is no 2FA) and it fails when using the application password.

How then do I configure the WordPress mobile app to gain full site access to my self hosted site for an existing user who has 2FA via wordfence?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • If you’re logging in through your site address and wp-admin login credentials, the WordPress app won’t be able to handle 2FA authentication. If you’d like to use the app with 2FA, the app can support that kind of login using WordPress.com. That connects to your site through Jetpack: https://jetpack.com/support/sso/
